CAGM to host discourse on Manipuri cinema scenario

Imphal, Sep. 8 (ENM): Cine Actors’ Guild Manipur (CAGM) is hosting a two-day discourse on ‘Manipuri Cinema-Present scenario and measures for development’ at Tribal Research Institute auditorium in Imphal on September 14 and 15.
Announcing this during a press conference at Manipur Press Club here on Sunday, CAGM Chairman Y Kumarjit said that the main objective of the discourse is to find remedial measures for the improvement of cinema in the state.
Aribam Syam Sharma, a renowned film maker will attend the inaugural function on September 14 while Film Forum Manipur(FFM) Chairman S Mangoljao and Arts Culture Director A Shivdas Sharma will be the guests of honour.
Social scientist Dhanabir Laishram, cultural activist Ningthouja Lancha and national awardee Haobam Pabankumar will speak on three different film related topics.
Birendra Salam of FFM, L Surjakanta of All Manipur Film Producers Association, Premjit Naoroibam of All Manipur Film Makers and Kh Bishwamitra of Cine Director’s Guild, Meghachandra Kongbam of Cine Artists and Technicians Association, Ksh Tejkeshwar of CAGM will give paper presentations on the first day.
On the second day, Rajmani Ayekpam of Cine Writers’ and ‘s Playwright forum,Hijam Angouba of All Manipur Cinematographers Association, Sanad Aribam of Cine Editors Guild,Nanao Khurai of Cine Make-up artistes and costume designers guild, Thangjam Birjit Meetei of Cine choreographers’ guild,A Premkumar of Cine Equipment Handlers’ Association Manipur, Naorem Sanaton of United Cinema Hall Exhibitors’ Association Manipur and a representative of All Manipur Matam Ishei Kanglup will present their papers.
It may be mentioned that the Manipur State Cinema Policy was approved by Chief Minister N Biren Singh chaired state cabinet meeting on August 21, 2019 to improve the film industry in the state.
Manipur which earlier produced more than 50 films a year, now produces only about 30 films. However the production rate of the music video is reportedly in an encouraging state. Manipuri cinema has bagged 36 National Film awards in a span of 47 years, according to reports.
