Cabinet approves launch of DD Arun Prabha for Northeast

Dimapur, Feb. 7 (EMN): The Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 6, approved the launch of DD Arun Prabha channel for the people of north-eastern region. The head office of the channel will be in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh. The channel is expected to fulfil the aspirations of the people of the region. DD Arun Prabha would telecast various cultural programmes of the north-eastern states. It will be Doordarshan’s second channel for the north-eastern region. The public service broadcaster already runs DD Northeast, a channel that telecasts entertainment and information-based programmes in English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, and other languages of the north-eastern states. The new 24X7 satellite channel of Doordarshan was scheduled to be launched on February 15, 2018 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, the launch was put on hold. Following the Cabinet’s decision to launch DD Arun Prabha channel for the Northeast, the chief minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio on Thursday tweeted “Happy to know that the Cabinet has approved the launch of Doordarshan Arun Prabha with its head office in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh. Grateful to the Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi. It will truly help meet the aspirations of the people of Northeast India.”
