Dimapur, Jan. 31 (EMN): The president of Naga People’s Front (NPF) party, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu has once again warned of the possibility of the Citizenship Amendment Act triggering a ‘population politics’ in the long run.
A press release from the party on Friday stated that Liezietsu was addressing a leadership conference of NPF Kohima division.
According to the NPF chief, the “many many convincing points” highlighted in favour of the Act were all attempts to “cover up the real motive behind this Act”.
He said that though the ‘people will not feel the pain instantly, its impact will intensify year by year, in due course of time’.
Liezietsu maintained that the CAA would destroy the “very fabric of secularism India (sic)”.
Also, former NPF legislator, Kropol Vitsu called upon the party leaders to stand with the NPF ideology and principle, and not ‘bargain our integrity for a mere package’.
Another former legislator, Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhütso urged the party leaders to retrospect; and stressed upon the need for contribution from each member.
It also adopted some resolutions, including a reiteration of its support to the party resolution to oppose the CAA; and its appreciation of the government of India and the armed Naga groups “for their tireless effort in giving positive steps towards Naga political problem”.
It further appealed to all concerned to “expedite the ongoing political talk and bring to a logical and amicable settlement”.
