Dimapur, Dec. 16 (EMN):
A T-Beam RCC girder bridge over the Balu Ghoki River, which connects Peren, Dimapur and Chümoukedima districts, was inaugurated by Jacob Zhimomi, Minister of Public Health Engineering Department, on Friday.

The long-awaited bridge over Balu Ghoki River between Shokhuvi-Pimla villages, serves as a lifeline for around 50 villages and crucial for the villagers to carry out commercial, business and administrative activities.

Speaking during the inaugural programme, Zhimomi appealed to the citizens of the surrounding villages to safeguard the bridge as it is their own property, and not take the sand and gravel from the river as it would weaken the foundation of the bridge.

He encouraged the citizens to take the maintenance of the bridge as their responsibility and suggested closure of sand mining around the bridge area to ensure durability.

He said that in the past, the completion of the bridge was delayed due to inefficient workmanship, because of which he personally took upon himself to complete the project.

‘With the co-operation of the concerned department and engineers, the bridge now stands ready, serving as a connection and an asset for thousands of civilians and it will no doubt provide various business ventures and financial stability,’ he said. Zhimomi further expressed gratitude to those individuals who contributed in making the project a success despite various unavoidable hindrances due to COVID-19 pandemic and the erratic monsoon.
