[dropcap]I[/dropcap]t is with a cry of joy and approval that villagers of Bura Namsang greeted the news of success of one among seven appeared who for the class-10 exams from Government High School, Bura Namsang village conducted by NBSE 2014. It is something that was beyond imagination not because the students are incapable of such success but because the odds they are up against studying in a school functioning below minimum required standards is heavy. God knows how many years have gone by with this government sponsored school always scoring a zero pass percentage. The student who qualified this year must have done so with extra luck and potential favoring him. Otherwise, come to think of it, one more year of zero pass percentage and it would have vanished. Thanks and congratulations for rescuing the school. How can we expect is it fair if there are no proper teachers deploying in the school—at least one teacher for each class to teach at the same period. Many teachers do not perform their duties to where they have posted thereby led to beyond capacity to run its school. Most of them replace with proxy and stays comfortably in their respective cities (this doesn’t mean I am against proxy teacher). Department should imposed befitting action to erring teachers. Still there is only one science teacher in this school for both mathematics and science for whole classes (from upper primary to high). Neither there is subject specialized teacher nor have any introduction of additional subjects like Environmental education, Home science, Book keeping and Accountancy, Information Technology, Agriculture or Music, which can opt any by students along with their five normal subjects. If a student fails in any of the five subjects, s/he is relied to drop for they have no other would to replace for the subject s/he lacks in.
Can’t the education department introduce additional subjects to this/such school and create post for the aforementioned subjects? Do you think to downgrade this/such school if weary or weakness is witnessed? The shortage of teachers and low quality of teaching/education makes children rather to think worthwhile to attend the school; makes attendance a waste of time. Besides, the students’ lacks on basic skills of writing, reading and arithmetic has compounded to slow growth and progression in government school and negligence of school authority on the other hand led to third-standard education.
Headmaster is assigned for overall responsibility of school administration under whom, the school would be functioning, but, posting in against is made at the nearing of his retirement—when one of his legs is stepping in to a pension process, the only other is administered in the school (50-50 devotion). Why every headmaster posted here is affected superannuation or transfer in few months? It is sure to die if a controlling officer/head of the school is not settle place. Villagers had been despair and hopeless; thus qualifying even one from seven candidates is good deal to praise reading school while others are praising for cent percent result.
I presume that most government schools might have similar deficiency and problems as faced in the above given school. I apologies if I hurt the sentiments of few allegiance teachers who have taking the burdens in all odds without which the school would have been closed.
