Nagaland University Vice-Chancellor JK Patnaik inaugurates a new Botanical Park at the university headquarters in Lumami.

DIMAPUR — In an initiative that could benefit research scholars, students, and the general public alike while helping to conserve the endangered and threatened plant species of Nagaland, Prof. JK Patnaik, the vice-chancellor of Nagaland University (NU), inaugurated a Botanical Park at the NU headquarters in Lumami on Wednesday.
Initiated this year with an aim to house rare and endemic plants of Nagaland state as well as those of Northeast India, the park currently has species of rare banana, zinzibers and medicinal plants of medicinal value, along with flowering species that enhance its beauty.
“The indigenous plant species at the park will be of interest both to the "Researchers" and "Connoisseurs", whether in terms of study, preservation or simply appreciation of nature,” stated an update from NU.

Curated and supervised by Dr. Neizo Puro from the Dept of Botany, NU, the park will also “serve as a place for the employees, research scholars, and PG students to unwind after a hard day in the department or office,” said the update, adding that the vast open space is ideal for walking.
It was also informed that Dr. Abemo, Registrar of NU; Dr. Albert Khizho, Finance Officer of NU; Er. Yanrenthung Ezung, CoE of NU; HoDs, faculty, officers, staff, and students attended the inauguration programme.
