Kohima, Dec. 29 (EMN): ‘Yearnings,’ a collection of 60 short poems by a writer and publisher, Vishü Rita Krocha, was released by Asalie Lese, undersecretary to the government of Nagaland, at the Été Coffee in Kohima, on Saturday.
Speaking about the book, the author said that “it contains recollections of moments, people, places and things that I love.” She felt that “a lot of things in life are temporary” and everything becomes a part of pasts memories without even realising it. She recounted her school days where she couldn’t wait for the summer break or Christmas holidays, yet “age and time, changes all of that,” Krocha said and added that “our pasts shape our lives in many ways.”
According to her, “poetry is the purest form of expression” and hope that her poems will resonate with the readers good memories in life. She also read out some of her poems from the book.
Assistant professor of the ICFAI University, Dr. Kevizonuo Kuolie gave a remarked about the book. She said: “As the title indicates, she (Krocha) talks of nostalgia, the loss of familiarity.” Dr. Kuolie observed that “The loss is not just of one person but she laments for everyone and every good thought she lay in life- a beloved, a lover, a friend, childhood, the five years and of passed days, the fleeting seasons.”
She also pointed out that the readers can relate themselve to the story of the poet as they flip through the pages of the ‘Yearnings.’ The professor felt that the author has done her job and it is the readers who are at liberty to find their centres.
Blogger and epidemiologist Dr. Sao Tunyi also gave a few comments about the book. The blogger was of the view that the “poems are majorly written from a position of weakness which is the strength or force of the book.” Tunyi felt that there is “no tone of accusation” in her poems but rather filled with a “goodwill.” He went on to say that “simplicity of words and the observant nature of the poet comes through.”
“The effortless of the poems in this book (Yearnings) is a sign of maturity of the poet in the art,” Dr. Tunyi observed.
