Bogibeel Bridge to host inaugural Northeast Half Marathon on Oct. 29

DIMAPUR — The first-ever Northeast Half Marathon is scheduled to take place at Bogibeel Bridge in Dibrugarh on October 29.

N F Railway and Innovations India have joined hands to organise the marathon, which will be supported by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the Sports Authority of India, the Assam Athletic Association, the Assam Police, and the Vikrun Foundation, among others, according to a press release.

The marathon will be held with the goal of empowering athletes and developing sports infrastructure in Northeast India.

A press conference was held on Thursday at the railway officer’s rest house in Dibrugarh, in which Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Labour and Employment, Rameswar Teli, along with additional general manager of NFR Yatendra Kumar and divisional railway manager of Tinsukia Uttam Prakash, announced and provided information about the event.

Captain Rahul Bali, the event’s curator, provided details about the marathon, prize money, and trophies to be awarded.

The marathon is expected to attract over 3,000 runners from all over the world, with prizes totaling INR 6.5 lakh to be awarded to the winners in addition to trophies, medals, and merit certificates.

Apart from empowering sportspersons, it would highlight various USPs of Dibrugarh, like the Bogibeel Bridge, the Jagannath Temple, and the Tea Gardens, that would help in promoting tourism.
