Dimapur, July 12 (EMN):
The body of a person was retrieved by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Dimapur from Dhansiri River on Monday, about two days after he drowned in the river.

Y Khenito Chishi, in-charge of SDRF Dimapur, informed Eastern Mirror that its team along with volunteers from Bade and Tsithrongse villages recovered the body of the person from Dhansiri River at around 12:30 pm on Monday.

He said that the deceased, who hailed from Bade village, drowned on July 10 while returning home after meeting his friends at Rangapahar. The police were told that the deceased drowned following sudden increase in water level.

The officer said that the incident was reported to the police only on Monday morning; after which they pressed into action along with volunteers to retrieve the body.

He went on to say that the villagers sanitised and handed over the body to the family members.
