Stating that the amount of blood donated during camps in the state is about 13,000 units, he said it is “very less” as per the population of the state and the requirement of blood.
He was addressing the students during the commemoration of World Red Cross Day, 2023 at Livingstone Foundation International Dimapur on Monday.
He shared that there are phobias and misconceptions in the society about donating blood and that needs to be done away with.
He opined that schools were the most important channels for blood donation because the students are enlightened, they give back to the society by donating.
“Whatever action we take we should think about what will be the consequences, and if we realise that, we can all be an asset to the society”, he said and thus requested everyone who is eligible to choose a date and donate blood at least once a year.
He further mentioned that people are living in a phase where social media is just a click away. However, he lamented that there were more rumours than news these days because everyone has become an expert in social media.
“This is how information travels so fast and so we have to filter the information of what is right and wrong, or else the situation can become gruesome for many,” he advised.
Andrew Ahoto Sema, Chairman of Livingstone Foundation International, encouraged the students to be ambassadors of peace, progress and prosperity and see humanity and not class or caste.
He shared that not everyone thinks alike sometimes and everyone has different minds but one needs to adapt to it, and one needs to have a good relationship with the mind, heart, and tongue.
‘Humanity should be above everything and especially the young ones should be humane as they are the future of tomorrow,’ he added.
Short speeches were also delivered by Ajay Sethi, Vice President of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Dimapur and Kamala Kanta Paul, secretary of IRCS, Dimapur.
