Dimapur, March 23 (EMN):
In an attempt to create history and enter the Guinness Book of World Records, the Dimapur Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union (Densu) on Tuesday organised a blood donation camp as part of the nationwide blood and plasma donation awareness campaign.

The camp was also held at District Hospital Dimapur (DHD) on the theme “Donate blood for a purpose and let the purpose be life”.

Organised in alliance with National Integrated Forum of Artists and Activists (NIFAA), as many as 70 blood donors reportedly turned up for the cause in Dimapur on Tuesday.

Dr. Temsu Longkumer, a pathologist at DHD, encouraged the volunteers who came to donate blood, saying that ‘everyone should take responsibility’.

He said that the ‘blood bank belonged to no single individual but whoever participates in the donation would be the owner’.

Longkumer said that a donor could be anyone between the ages of 18-65 years. After a test, if they are qualified to donate, they can do so. He also said that all the donors would be given a certificate and no extra diet was necessary after blood donation.

The state co-ordinator of NIFAA, Bejim Konyak, highlighted about the forum, stating that it is a social and cultural-based organisation with a mission to promote active participation of youths in the society. It was stated that a blood donation camp was organised in all the states across the county in commemoration of the 90th death anniversary of martyrs Shaheed Bhagar Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.

“Let us join hands with the rest of our people in the country by donating our blood to save one,” she added.

President of NIFAA, Nagaland branch, O Tiazungla Phom also acknowledged all the donors and said that ‘more people came forward to donate’ then expected.

President of Densu, Bendangnukan also said: “We have come for a purpose, which is not just for the sake of donating blood, but maybe one drop of blood can save someone’s life”.
