DIMAPUR — Blood donation activist, Kiran Verma, who embarked on a mission to cover 21,000 km walk to create awareness on blood donation, reached Kohima on Sunday.
The mission of the walk was to spread awareness about blood donation among people so that “Nobody should die waiting for blood in India after December 31, 2025.” The walk was dubbed as the ‘longest blood awareness campaign ever by an individual in the world,’ which would run for more than two years.
The walk was to encourage around 5 million new blood donors to donate blood, so that blood banks and hospitals do not run dry on blood, stated Verma in an update.
Verma started his 21,000 km walk for blood awareness in India from Thiruvananthapuram on December 28, 2021.
In Nagaland, Verma reached Kohima after traversing Dimapur, Chümoukedima, Niuland, Tseminyu, Wokha, Mokokchung, Longleng, Mon, Tuensang, and Zunheboto districts.
Verma informed that he has completed more than 17,700 km covering 229 districts across 17 states and union territories.
To support his walk, a total of 126 blood donation camps were organised in different part of the country through which more than 26,722 units of blood have been collected. Apart from the camps, more than 9000 individual blood donors have donated blood in their personal capacity at different blood banks across India and abroad to support the campaign.
His next destination after Kohima would include Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and other part of North East India.
