Dimapur, November 30: The Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) has lashed out at the Manipur government and security forces for alleged “excessive acts perpetrated upon the innocent public.” The ZYF issued a note on Wednesday alleging that a woman, Thangongliu (Athanna) Kamei, suffered severe injury due to “live bullets firing” at Longmai (Noney) on November 29.
“The incident occurred on National Highway No. 37 when a group of people in support of the UNC democratic movement enforced the economic blockade demanding the state govt to give clear assurance regarding the upgradation of Sadar Hills and Jiribam as full-fledged districts and immediately release Mr. Gaidon Kamei President UNC and Mr. S.K. Stephen Info & Pub Secy UNC.,” the press release from the ZYF stated.
The organization alleged that the current situation was the creation of the Manipur government, for which, it stated, the mechanism to resolve the issue lies in the hand of the government.
“Resorting to suppressive policy by the state govt will only aggravate the situation, therefore, the Zeliangrong Youth Front demand the state govt. to honor the four MoUs signed between the govt. of Manipur and Naga and assurance given by the union govt regarding the Sadar Hills,” the note stated.
Further, the ZYF demanded that the Manipur government immediately release the arrested Naga leaders without any condition.
“Any eventuality (that occurs) due to the economic blockade and delay in releasing of Naga leaders shall be the responsibility of the state govt. failure to honor the citizens democratic rights of the Naga people,” it added.
