Dimapur, Dec. 7 (EMN):
Blockade by Assam-based organisations on National Highway 702D, which connects the commercial town Mariani in Assam with Mokokchung, entered the 22nd day on Sunday.

According to Mokokchung Police sources, the blockade is still being imposed in Assam’s Jorhat district. He added that the Nagaland Police personnel have not yet withdrawn from the disputed area in Aosenden village jurisdiction.

The secretary of Tzurangkong Range Naga youth Front (TRNYF), Shiluyongdang informed that unless the Assam-based organisations lift the blockade, the TRNYF would continue with its counter-blockade at Chungtiayimsen-Watiyim junction.

A senior executive of Japukong Youth Organisation, Yanger Ao, informed that economic blockade imposed by the Assam groups on Japukong section entered the ninth day on Sunday.

It may be noted that a high-level delegation from Nagaland led by Minister Temjen Imna Along, who is also the state BJP president, Mhathung Yanthan, Advisor to Border Affairs and Horticulture had a consultative meeting with the chief minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal at Guwahati, Assam on December 5, in connection with the ongoing Mariani-Mokokchung border row.

During the meeting, they had reportedly discussed about the ongoing impasse and both sides reiterated the importance of living peacefully as neighbours. They stressed on the fact that both states have to work together hand in hand so that any issues which crop up should be settled amicably.

Further, they had decided that the blockades on both sides should be lifted at the earliest for which necessary initiatives will be undertaken without delay; and appealed to all concerned to refrain from any untoward acts that may vitiate peaceful atmosphere and neighbourly relations.
