Dimapur, Oct. 23 (EMN): Moving a step ahead towards formation of higher level of federation of rural poor women under DAY-NRLM, the Block Mission Management Unit (BMMU), Longmatra block, under Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM) has formed block level federations (BLFs) on October 18.
The BLFs were formed under the guidance and support of a team from resource block Kiphire, Ripise Sangtam, BPM Kiphire, and Piose Anar, Ac-IBCB Kiphire Block, an update informed.
During the launching programme, the resource persons said BLF is an organisation/ institute that bring together all village organisations and non-VLO from the blocks. Resource persons informed that BLFs are formed with an objective to provide space, voice, better bargaining power and resources to the poor and reducing their dependence on external agencies.
It informed that all funding to the SHGs would be routed through BLF, which would ensure proper development of all the SHGs attached to it through village organizations.
“These institutions will partner with government, public and private sectors for the last mile delivery of social and economic services for the rural poor. It will also promote livelihood collectives, producer’s cooperatives and forward linkages, and access to information, credit, markets etc.,” it stated.
The launching of block level federations was done in presence of DMMU staff, village stake holders, block level NSRLM staff, leaders of village organisations (VO) under the blocks and the community resource persons
Earlier, ADPM DMMU, Kiphire, Albert Yangdongse, dwelled on the role, responsibilities and functioning of the BLF.
AC-IBCB, Hori, chaired the programme, while the welcome note was delivered by Atsope, BPM Longmatra Block, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Kuramong AC-FI, Longmatra block.
