Dimapur, September 8: The 6th edition of Pochury Black Day Memorial Cup, organised by Pochury Students’ Union (PSU) on the theme "Goal for justice" commenced in Meluri on September 7 with the Parliamentary Secretary of Fisheries, Printing & Stationary, Shetoyi, as the chief guest.
The chief guest, in his speech, emphasised on unity among the different Naga political groups to bring about a permanent solution. He however lamented the divisions among the different Naga political groups which according to him are hampering the peace process. The chief guest also acknowledged the contributions of the Pochury people for the Naga cause fighting for freedom and sovereignty back in 1960's.“The people of Pochury has been observing September 6 as ‘Black Day’ in memory of all those who had suffered and laid down their lives for the greater glory and freedom of the Nagas”, according to a report received here on Thursday.
He said that it was a day of sadness and a day to acknowledge them and to preserve, protect and promote the importance of history through sports.
He called upon the Pochury youth to give their best, have strong determination, dedication and devote oneself so that, fame and glory could be brought not only to the particular tribe but for the Nagas in general.
The press release stated that PSU organised the memorial cup with a vision to preserve, protect and promote our unique identity and to spread the importance of our history through sports in which our forefathers had sacrificed and laid down their precious lives for the cause of Naga Nation. Altogether 12 teams are participating in Black Day Memorial Cup.
