DIPHU — In a horrifying incident that has shaken the Karbi community, a 31-year-old man from Kakojan village under the Duarbagori constituency in Assam’s Karbi Anglong was brutally murdered by unidentified miscreants.

The lifeless body of victim, identified as Rowel Ronghang, son of Bilison Ronghang who was serving as General Secretary of BJYM Kakojan Polling Station, was found in a pool of blood with his throat slit inside his car around 7:30 pm on Monday.

The shocking incident took place under Bokakhat police station, which is just 300 meters away from the entry gate of popular Kaipholangso waterfall.

The police have launched investigation into the case but the motive behind the heinous crime remains unclear till the time of filing this report.

Following the horrifying incident, the angry public of Kakojan (Kaipholangso), including the Karbi Students’ Association (KSA) protested in front of the Bokakhat police station, demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits. The KSA of Bokakhat College Unit also appealed to Minister Atul Bora and Deputy Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly, Dr. Numal Momin, to intervene in the matter.

Having completed the autopsy, the mortal remains of the victim had reached his native village and the cremation is scheduled to be done at Kakojan Baptist Church burial ground on Tuesday.

The Bokakhat police station also informed that the post-mortem report will be disclosed by Tuesday.

The Karbi Students’ Union, KSA and United Deithor Women Forum had submitted memorandum addressed to the SDPO Bokakhat, SP Golaghat and DGP Assam through the magistrate and OC Bokakhat for quick response and to take severe action against the culprit.

‘I am shuttered and deeply saddened to learn about the untimely death of an active Karyakartas of BJP Lt. Rowel Ronghang,’ said Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) of Duarbagori constituency and KAAC, EM, Richard Tokbi. ‘I urge the law and order authority to initiate a thorough investigation into the tragic incident; to identify and punish the culprit as per the law of the land.’

KAAC, CEM Tuliram Ronghang also took to social media to express his shock over the gruesome murder and sought justice for the victim.
