Dimapur, Jan. 26 (EMN): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nagaland will proceed with the 20-40 seat-sharing formula with Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) in the upcoming Assembly election 2023, Minister of Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Jacob Zhimomi, confirmed on Thursday.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the Republic day programme, Zhimomi maintained that there is “no issue as Central BJP and NDPP have decided, so accordingly they will proceed ahead for the election.”

Regarding the dharna staged by BJP members demanding more seats, he said ‘it is very natural for anyone to show resentment if it does not happen in the way it should be but it is very clear that 40-20 is arranged, so accordingly Central BJP and NDPP have decided 20 seats for BJP and 40 for NDPP, so the matter ends there.’

The minister added that he is “happy” with the decision of the Central BJP leaders.

Developmental gap between the urban, rural

Meanwhile, Zhimomi asserted that there is a need to reduce the developmental gap between the urban and rural sector, which is being primarily triggered by technological advancement.

He stated this while addressing the crowd during the 74th Republic Day celebration at DDSC Stadium, Dimapur.

The minister said to reduce the developmental gap, it is imperative to take technology and make it relevant to the “remotest and the most vulnerable group of people in the society”.

He went on to add that this demands “creativity, good connectivity and deep rootedness of oneself to the society and being conscious of its problems, limitations and aspirations”.

Zhimomi shared that Nagaland has come a long way to pick up coffee and rubber plantation as means of livelihood for some and economic activity for others. However, processing units, mode of harvest and the mechanism behind its tending are yet to be fully explored by means of technology, he opined.

He stated that to promote and make technology as a livelihood enterprise in the state and beyond, ‘it is imperative to explore and customise creativity with the application of the available prospective intelligence for future mass marketing avenues’.

‘Agriculture sector can also rely more on technological advancement given the growth, in which mechanisation and optimisation of tools are promising for better harvest,’ he added.

Further, he mentioned that from 22% literacy rate in 1961, Nagaland’s literacy rate stands at 80.11% in 2021 as per the National Statistical office data, which is above the national average.

Thus, he shared that it is the endeavour of the government to ensure that no child misses out on education which in turn will contribute greatly to the progress of the nation.

During the programme, cultural performance by AIKO cultural troupe Pimla; song by Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, Dimapur; and dance by Pranab Vidyapith Higher School, Dimapur were also performed.

Moa Subong, a musician who invented an easy-play wind instrument, Bamhum, was awarded the Padma Shri by the Minister of PHED during the programme.
