[dropcap]N[/dropcap]agaland BJP has ridiculed the NPCC for its determined attempt to ‘fruitlessly and desperately’ drag the DAN into a ceaseless debate over national issues that even the Congress governments had never been able to solve in the last several decades and clarified that the fictitious overwhelming concern of the NPCC on these issues targeted at the BJP were baseless and shallow. In a statement, Nagaland BJP Media Cell said these issues have relevant safeguards in the Constitution that require special majority for legislation in the Parliament. Nagaland BJP said no single party, how large, can pass the bill without the consent of the opposition bench, or in some cases, the ratification of the state legislatures. It said coalition politics or not, there is no assurance that the BJP led NDA would deal with these issues unilaterally. Nagaland BJP said this in reply to the concern expressed by NPCC that the absolute majority of the BJP led NDA would dictatorially legislate on the five national issues as highlighted earlier.
On the Article 371 (A), BJP Nagaland clarified that there is no question of national security linked to the state’s Art 371(A) unlike that of Art 370 of J&K that would attract its abrogation. It said the references on Art 371(A) is merely connected with bringing about development in the state by side stepping the land ownership hurdles and its associated compensation claims that stand in the way of developmental works. It added that BJP central leaders are well aware of the uniqueness and necessity of the Art 371(A).
On Anti conversion laws, it said the issue also comes under the staunch provision of Fundamental rights requiring special majority and the cooperation of the opposition ensuring adequate safeguards.
On uniform civil code aimed at ensuring social equality as well as the Anti Cow slaughter both being provisions of the non enforceable Directive Principles, Nagaland BJP said it has avenues where the state legislatures has certain amount of jurisdiction to prevail upon its legislation thus ensuring inclusion of local situations and requirements thereby safeguarding varied regional and local diversities.
Finally, the issue of Building Ram Temple at Ayodhya, it clarified that the issue is subjudiced and thus not permissible for debate.
It noted that the NPCC or the Congress has a tunnel vision wherein communalism is all that it could see in the BJP. It said BJP Nagaland is not blinded by mere ideology from the perspective of the Congress but assigned to the BJP’s vision and programme of all round development bringing about nation building and improving the country’s brand name in the international arena.
BJP Nagaland has reminded that the BJP nation building vision brought about the recognition of the ‘unique political history’ of the Nagas by the NDA government of Atal Behari Vajpayee as announced at the ramparts of the Red Fort, New Delhi on Independence Day 2004.
