Dimapur, April 1: The general secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Northeast region, Luizinho Faleiro alleged that the BJP-RSS combine are on a “select mission” to destroy the unique culture, tribes, identity and customs of the northeast states of India.
Faleiro was addressing media persons at a press conference at Hotel Saramati in Dimapur on Monday. “The worst is the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) which will destroy whatever is left of the NE states,” said Faleiro, adding that the region was ‘in turmoil where a culture of hatred, revenge and vendetta is being pushed by the BJP.’
He also asked the Naga people to “condemn the ruling NDPP for not opposing the CAB in Lok Sabha”, terming it as a betrayal of the people of Nagaland.
“The agenda of the government at the Centre is to divide the country on communal lines and also fighting the secular forces,” said Faleiro.
The general secretary also said that the Congress has their regional and national aspirations that will always try to protect and preserve the local customs and traditions.
“Overall development has come to a grinding halt and the Congress want to bring back the industrial policy, transport subsidies but most importantly renew the educational system,” he said. He also appreciated the NPF leaders, Shurhozelie Liezietsu and TR Zeliang, for extending support to the Congress in the coming by-elections and Lok Sabha polls.
“In spite of our differences, the NPF understands the larger picture of saving the country and to make sure secularism is protected and see that Nagaland marches towards prosperity,” said Faleiro and pledged support to the NPF if elected in the 26-Aonglenden assembly constituency by-election.
Also present at the press conference was KL Chishi, the Congress candidate for the Lok Sabha polls on April 11. He said that he had earlier joined the BJP as he was forced by the voters to join the ruling party at the Centre.
The president of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee, K Therie expressed confidence that the Congress will win the elections.
“We cannot compromise our faith, identity and political solution; Congress has built this country and gave it freedom,” Therie stressed, while claiming that the recent withdrawals of candidature resembled a “sales day.”
