Kohima, June 2 (EMN):
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nagaland unit observed completion of one year of Modi 2.0 government. It called for a press conference at its headquarters in Kohima on the occasion on June 2, amid the nationwide lockdown.

Addressing the journalists, Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland Y Patton highlighted the initiatives undertaken by the Modi-led NDA government in the country.

Terming the Modi-led government as ‘clear policies, bold moves; historic decisions taken with full conviction, Patton said it had continued with the welfare-oriented policies of the Modi 1.0 government with its commitment “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,” protecting and preserving the unity and integrity of the nation even in the Modi 2.0 government.

He maintained that the Indian government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been marching towards self-reliance and that it had “approached the challenges posed by (the novel) coronavirus pro-actively and fought the pandemic with the help of public participation by winning public trust and involving public in the fight.”

He also stated that Modi, after becoming the prime minister of India in 2014, had set a new benchmark in the welfare of the poor, infrastructure, economic health, administrative transparency, national security and India’s global stature besides putting on record various initiatives and achievements of the government.

“Prime Minister Modi has taken significant steps towards reducing the gap between urban and rural areas, pushing economic reforms, moving with sensitivity on matters of public concern and turning challenges into opportunities,” Patton added.

Other key highlights put forth were the enactment of Citizenship (amendment) Act, commencement of Sri Ram temple construction, Bru-Reang refugee agreement, Bodo agreement, bringing law on Triple Talaq, Pradhan Matri Awas Yojna (Urban and Rural) and other welfare centric schemes.

It had once again renewed its efforts to “Go Swadeshi” and had appealed to the people to use and promote local products, he said.

“By using its full potential, India cannot only achieve the Swadeshi resolution but can also promote local products to achieve global identity,” Patton said, while highlighting how the Modi-led government had been aiding farmers and micro-small and medium industries and Indian enterprises.

The BJP leader also stated the party’s resolution to pursue India’s national unity, democracy, egalitarian society, all religions, equality and value-based politic as a BJP worker and to buy local products so as to encourage the manufacturing of local products. He also stated that it would carry forward the campaign to create social awareness, and promote cleanliness and sanitation to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, the party president and Nagaland’s minister for Higher and Technical Education and Tribal Affairs, Temjen Imna Along, stated that the event marked the launching of the month-long Modi 2.0 government commemoration for one year.

He said the party chose not to make it a celebration but an event of commemoration in view of the fight against the pandemic and also to show solidarity with the people of the country, healthcare workers and all frontline workers. He also pitched for a self-reliant Nagaland and choosing local over foreign products and urged the party workers to put it in letter and in spirit.

Along said the party would be carrying forward month-long activities starting from June 2. BJP Nagaland through its morchas /workers will be giving out 50,000 face masks and hand sanitisers to all the 60 assembly constituencies of Nagaland irrespective of political parties, he said.

The party will also be organising at least a hundred virtual rallies starting from all its party legislators and party workers throughout the state of Nagaland. Along also said that a letter from the prime minister that’s being translated in various languages of Nagaland would be distributed.

BJP legislator and Nagaland’s advisor for Tourism and Art and Culture H Khehovi Yepthomi urged to spread love by forgiving one another and co-operate with the government and the people.

Yepthomi also appealed to the people of the state to forget “ism” and to fight and defeat the pandemic collectively.
