DIMAPUR — Elected members of the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) from the BJP released a statement on Sunday, alleging that despite being part of the ruling People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA), “the BJP elected councillors were not even given a chance to propose their candidatures.”

The councillors said that the PDA was formed based on a 40/20 seat-sharing agreement between the NDPP and BJP for the  general election.

“However, in the recently concluded Dimapur ULB election there was a straight contest between BJP and NDPP, not as coalition partners,” it said.

After the election, the BJP councillors claimed they were not informed by their party or the NDPP regarding the selection of the Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson and were denied the opportunity to propose their candidates.

They also claimed that BJP legislators had requested the NDPP to appoint a BJP member as deputy chairperson, “without our consent.”

“If  needed, we are willing to sit in the opposition,” they said, adding that they would “stand by the directive of the BJP high command”.
