IMPHAL, January 14

[dropcap]M[/dropcap]anipur BJP chief today lashed out at Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam for the alleged deteriorating law and order situation in the hill districts where police are armed with lathis in place of weapons.
“Gaikhangam who is also the Home Minister has not allowed weapons to police personnel in the hills where law and order is getting worse,” Chaoba told journalists at BJP office.
The state BJP president was announcing names of four new members including one from Manipur Trinamool Congress who joined his party. He said Gaikhangam, who represents Nungba constituency in hill district Tamenglong, knows every reason behind the present bad road connectivity in the hills.
“PDS items are not reaching the hills and there is no safe drinking water. Gaikhangam knows why this is happening in the hills,” Chaoba accused.
The BJP leader said he would soon show to the people the dilapidated roads in Gaikhangam’s own constituency.
The state BJP president also demanded the Deputy Chief Minister to clarify his controversial speech made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi who came here for a campaign rally for the last general elections.
Chaoba said that Gaikhangam, also the president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), had called Modi a man who lives as a celibate and his Manipur visit was ridiculed as “visit of a Mongba, a small bird that brings bad luck.
The former MP alleged that the Tribal Welfare has been changed to “city welfare” and vowed to initiate the CBI to probe misuse of public benefits and schemes.
He also announced to reinforce the on-going membership drive of BJP in the state by organising motorcycle rallies, street corner awareness campaigns, institutional campaigns and kiosk campaigns.
