DIMAPUR —Bishop of Nagaland, Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, dedicated the Holy Redeemer Church in Tobu under Mon district on April 7. The foundation stone for the church was laid by Rev. Fr. Jose Lukose on September 8, 2022.
An update from the church stated that the dedication programme was held in the presence of Yangba, commandant of 8th NAP (IR) and representatives from Tobu parishioner, Catholic Association of Nagaland (CAN), Nagaland Catholic Youth Movement (NCYM), Nagaland Catholic Women Association (NCWA), Konyak Catholic Association (KCA), priests and nuns from different parishes/ centres of Nagaland and beyond, all the catholic churches under Mon district, various CSOs and village headmen of Tobu area, church leaders irrespective of denominations.
The construction of the church building was initiated by parish priest, Rev. Fr. Anthony Samy, in consultation with the church elders, lay leaders, parishioners and parish pastoral council.
It stated that after several meetings with the community, the church construction committee (CCC) set up a six members committee headed by John Khangnyu as convenor. The committee along the parishioners entrusted Peter Homang to take up the responsibility of construction work under the architectural supervision of parish priest.
Located at the majestic hilltop in the far-1east corner of Nagaland under Mon district, the Holy Redeemer Church stands at 65 feet in height, 51 feet in breath and 110 feet in length. The idea of upgrading new building was based on insufficient seating capacity to accommodate the increasing number of community members, report stated.
Meanwhile, the church construction committee has expressed gratitude to all the organisations, individuals and well-wishers for their generous contribution towards the construction of Catholic Church.
“It was all possible because of the collective efforts of the parishioners, priests from various parishes/ centres, Konyak Catholic Association, various Catholic churches from the diocese of Kohima, Tobu village council, Konyak Union Tobu, Konyak Mothers’ Association Tobu, Tobu Area Students’ Union, Tobu Village Students’ Union, Tobu Town Students’ Union, both College Student’ Associations of Tobu Town and Tobu Village, All the Baptist Churches of Tobu and other like-minded individuals whose contribution has made a successful completion of the Church,” the statement read.
