Bigwigs from rival parties launch poll campaigns in Mokokchung
Mokokchung, Feb. 21 (EMN): Two former bureaucrats from rival political parties namely NDPP candidate Alemtemshi Jamir from 25 Mongya assembly constituency and NPF candidate ET Sunup from 29 Jangpetkong assembly constituency have launched their election campaign in their respective constituency on February 21.
Retired chief secretary of Nagaland and currently the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) candidate for 25th Mongya assembly constituency in Mokokchung district Alemtemshi Jamir has appealed to the electorate to give him a ‘chance’ as the state goes to the assembly elections. He has assured to provide good governance, transparency, accountability and Rule of Law.
Addressing supporters at Chuchuyimpang community hall on Wed., Alemtemshi Jamir assured that the NDPP will be forming the state’s new government ‘because the party has a clear vision in their manifesto and agenda.’
The party’s working president asserted also that the party will be focusing on establishing a good government and ‘deliver good governance’ to the people. According to him, the party will bring change ‘to the system’ and fulfil the aspirations of the people ‘based on transparency, accountability, and Rule of Law.’
To accommodate unemployed youths, Jamir said, the party will ‘use land as their best asset to develop the agriculture sector, converting it into commercial production and post-harvest activities for business and employment.’
He added that apart from promoting women empowerment, the party will also ensure gender equality.
Alemtemshi Jamir will face former minister Dr. Ngangshi K Ao of the Naga People’s Front and S Supongmeren Jamir of the National People’s Party, a former MLA. 25th Mongya assembly constituency has about 15, 898 voters of which 7773 are males and 8119 are females.
Meanwhile, NPF candidate for 29 Jangpetkong AC and former bureaucrat ET Sunup kicks off his election campaign at various village in his constituency.
Taking a dig at his political opponent from NPP during his speech at Mongchen village, he questioned how a newly formed party from a small state like Meghalaya could look after the welfare of the Nagas in general when they have their own problem of their own.
He also said that NPF as a party have become clean as ‘all the trouble makers’ have been rooted out from the party and has been replaced by fresh and capable leaders and candidates who stand by the party principles.
Sharing his manifesto to the gathering, he shared his plans to make Mangkolemba as a district and make Alongkima as an administrative sub-division and also install an administrative centre at Longnak.
If elected, he promised to identify various places in the area and exploit it to promote tourism at Jangpetkong. He also shared his vision to look after the welfare of the youth in the field of employment by giving various trainings and tools for self employment.
He also promised to look into the plight of road connectivity in the area as well as proper healthcare centre in all the villages under Jangpetkong. He also gave his word to give more emphasis in education sector while not neglecting the water and electricity problems faced by the people in Jangpetkong area.
