Johnson clinches men's 1500 gold
Jakarta, Aug. 30 (IANS): India's Jinson Johnson clinched the gold in the men's 1500 metres event at the 2018 Asian Games here on Thursday.
Johnson clocked 3 minutes and 44.72 seconds to take the yellow metal. Iran's Amir Moradi took the silver with his season best timing of 3:45.62, while Bahrain's Mohammed Tiouali settled for the bronze with a time of 3:45.88.
India take men's 4X400m silver
India clinched the silver medal in the men's 4X400 metre event at the 18th Asian Games here on Thursday.
The Indian quartet of Muhammed Kunhu, Dharun Ayyasamy, Muhammed Anas and Rajiv Arokia clocked a time of 3 minutes and 1.85 seconds.
Qatar created a new Asian record of 3:00.56 to win the gold while Japan finished the race in 3:01.94 to bag the bronze medal.
Seema takes bronze in women's discus throw
India's Seema Punia had to settle for the bronze medal in the women's discus throw event at the 18th Asian Games here on Thursday.
Seema registered a throw of 62.26 metres to ensure a place on the podium.
China clinched the top two positions with Chen Yang (65.12m) and Feng Bin (64.25m) getting gold and silver respectively.
Chitra Unnikrishnan bags bronze in women's 1500m
India's Chitra Unnikrishnan Palakeezh bagged bronze in the women's 1500 metre competition at the 2018 Asian Games here on Thursday.
The 23-year-old clocked 4 minutes and 12.56 seconds to finish the race at third place, while Bahrain secured the top two places as Kalkidan Befkadu and Tigist Belay clinched gold and silver respectively.
Brar loses in judo pre-quarters
India's Harshdeep Singh Brar lost in the pre-quarterfinals of the men's 81 kilogram category of the judo competition at the 18th Asian Games here on Thursday.
Brar was outclassed 3-10 by Lee Seungsu of South Korea in a one-sided contest in the Round of 16.
Earlier, Brar thrashed Rajitha Pushpa Kumara of Sri Lanka 10-1 in his campaign opener.
Sandeep disqualified during men's 50km race walk
India's Sandeep Kumar was disqualified during the men's 50 kilometre race walk at the 18th Asian Games here on Thursday.
Sandeep received three official warnings during the race which led to his disqualification.
Hayato Katsuki of Japan won gold with a time of four hours, three minutes and 30 seconds. Wang Qin of China took silver with a time of 4:06:48 while South Korea's Joo Hyunmyeong clocked 4:10:21 to bag the bronze medal.
Katsuki was trailing during the initial stages of the race before taking the lead at the 45km mark which he held till the end.
India's men's hockey team failed to reach the final as they lost to Malaysia in a dramatic penalty shoot-out at the 18th Asian Games here on Thursday.
The match ended in a 2-2 stalemate in regulation time, before India lost 6-7 in the penalty shoot-out.
On Saturday, India will take on the losing team of the second semi-final between Pakistan and Japan in the bronze medal tie.
