Bhutan looks to state’s bamboo for ‘happiness index’ pep

[dropcap]M[/dropcap]ore than a dozen delegations comprising artisans, and officials from the Royal Government of Bhutan, were in Dimapur recently to examine how the state develops bamboo and to seek support for skill development in the sector.
The Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency of the government of Nagaland collaborated with the Ministry of Labor and Human Resources of the Royal Government of Bhutan for the event. The event was supported by the South Asia Bamboo Foundation.The Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency undertook what the agency called the “exposure study tour” and a workshop on bamboo at the Nagaland Bamboo Resource Centre in Dimapur. The event was conducted during April 27–28.
14 fourteen delegations from Bhutan led by Phuntsho Norbu, Program Officer of the Ministry of Labour and Human Resources and three officials from Royal Government of Bhutan, and eight entrepreneurs and artisan attended the event among others.
‘The visiting team is looking at Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency for support in skill development and capacity building of bamboo products in Bhutan for promoting bamboo products and utilization of bamboo in the country,’ the agency stated in a note issued on Monday to the media. ‘Bhutan has huge bamboo resources which is untapped. The skill development initiative in bamboo will help Bhutan its gross happiness index’, the agency explained.
