Dimapur, June 30 (EMN): Kohima district administration, in collaboration with the offices of the chief medical officer, district welfare officer and district legal service authority, held a ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ (BBBP) launch programme at New Market panchayat hall on Friday.

Speaking at the launch programme, the deputy commissioner of Kohima, Shanavas C, mentioned that the programme was to sensitise the rights of girl child in legal aspects as well as women’s health hygiene.

He urged the participants to grasp the whole idea of the sensitisation outreach programme and share their problems with confidence, a DIPR report stated.

The DC stated that ‘Save the girl child, educate her’ programme would elaborate on the topic of gender violence, girl child rights, available schemes for the girl child, POCSO Act, filing of FIR as well as sexual health, menstrual health, and mental health.

He mentioned that sex-selective abortion or female foeticide has led to a sharp drop in the ratio of girls born in contrast to boy infants in some states in India and added that the scheme was launched to address concerns of gender discrimination and women empowerment in the country and aims to educate citizens against gender bias and improve the efficacy of welfare services for girls.

The resource persons of the programme were counselor of One Stop Centre, Kohima, Medochuünuo Chielie; advocate-cum-panel lawyer of KDLSA, Keduvi Zhotso; and medical officer of Zadima PHC, Dr. Dangtila Sangtam.

The invocation was pronounced by Puchosel Tetseo and the programme was chaired by SDO (Civil) of Kohima, Nockpai Konyak.
