Dimapur, Dec. 12 (EMN): Underlining the vast economic scope in the global sporting sector, personal secretary to the chief minister Masangum Hiekha has encouraged the budding sportspersons to hone their talent and excel in their profession globally.
Stating that sporting sector has become a million dollar industry in this modern era, Hiekha has encouraged the young sportspersons to take up sports on professionalism. While pointing out that Nagas are second to none in the field of sports, he found no reason why they cannot compete with the rest of the world with their God’s given talent.
Hiekha said this while speaking as the chief guest at the three-day Benreu Village Block Tournament (NVBT) which got underway on Dec. 11. While acknowledging that winning the trophy should be the aim of every sportspersons, he however stated that participation in the event with true spirit of sportsmanship and discipline is more important. He encouraged the participants to promote unity and camaraderie through sports for a better society.
On the other aspects, he was all praise for Benreu village which according to him is most blessed and richest among Zeliang villages. He said the village holds distinction as the first on many fronts not only among the Zeliang community but also among the Nagas. He has particularly mentioned the first headmaster and the first chief secretary amongst the Nagas from Benreu village. He has attributed the success to being the first village to embrace Christianity in Zeliang area. He has urged upon the villagers to follow the footsteps of their leaders and lead the community for a better society.
Altogether eight blocks of the village including boys and girls would vie in volleyball and football. The organisers have also planned activities for children during the tournament.
