Dimapur, Dec. 18 (EMN): Beilieze Ward-2 emerged as champions of the first edition of inter- ward football league tournament held at local ground, Medziphema.
Playing against Loliba Ward 8, Beilieze out played their opponents 2-0 in the final match to lift the trophy.
In the individual awards, Kikruzelie won player of the tournament, Keviseyie Vasa bagged the best keeper, Neithovilie Chalieu and Nourhielhoulie Vasa were the top scorers, and the Khenuba Ward -7 won best discipline team award, an update informed.
Earlier in the day, general secretary, JDU Nagaland, Kitoho S Rotokha, graced the final match as the guest of honour. Rotokha in his exhortation asked each player to first ask themselves “one’s worth and get serious about their goal, be it sports or any other profession.”
While lamenting lack of proper sporting infrastructure in the state, he acknowledged the immense talents sprouting out in Nagaland despite setbacks.
The JDU leader also encouraged the sports person not to be disheartened as Nagas are second to none when it comes to physical fitness and to take advantage of Khelo India.
