Beauty queen RuopfuzhanoWhiso returns home to grand welcome
Bouquets of flowers, men and women in traditional attire, alongside flags and banners with the words “Welcome Home,” welcomed Ruopfuzhano Whiso on Tuesday.
This homecoming celebration for the fourth runner-up of Miss Universe India was organised by the Beauty and Aesthetics Society of Nagaland (BASN) upon her arrival at Dimapur Airport.
Among those present to welcome her were the Angami Students’ Union Dimapur, Dimapur Naga Students’ Union, Whiso clan, Tenyimi Students’ Union Dimapur, Nimok Power Gym Kohima, and other organisations.
Speaking on the occasion, Whiso expressed her gratitude, stating that it warmed her heart to see all her family, as well as members from her village, clan, gym, students’ union, and church. She reminded everyone that if they can dream it, they can achieve it.
During the pageant competition, she admitted that she was overwhelmed by the support and prayers from Nagaland and the northeast. Despite moments of doubt, her family’s encouragement kept her strong.
Sharing details of her experience, she also thanked her ramp walk mentor, Anrish Daimary, expressing that he made her journey what it is now.
Mele Pucho, president of BASN and state director of Miss Universe Nagaland, expressed that it has long been a dream for BASN to send their girls to represent them in prestigious beauty pageants and that after nearly 49 years, Whiso is the first Naga to achieve a runner-up position in a renowned beauty contest in India.
Noting that in 1975, Engelina Kevichusa became the first runner-up in Miss India, he said that throughout Whiso’s journey, they had witnessed immense support from everyone.
Stating that this is just the beginning for Whiso, who serves as an inspiration to all and to young girls in particular, he added that the future of the beauty pageant industry looks promising.
