Beauty and Aesthetic Society of Nagaland announces audition for Miss Nagaland 2021
Kohima, Sep. 16 (EMN): Beauty and Aesthetic Society of Nagaland (BASN) has announced that they would be organising the Miss Nagaland 2021 virtually this year.
Making the announcement during a press conference at Hotel Ura on Wednesday in Kohima, Mele Pucho, President of BASN, informed that owing to the pandemic situation, the 29th Miss Nagaland beauty pageant scheduled to be held later this year would be done virtually.
It was informed that the mega pageant could not be held last year owing to the outbreak of the pandemic. However, this year’s edition would be organised virtually keeping in mind the prevailing situation across the country. BASN has been organising the beauty contest annually for the last 28 years.
Pucho also apprised that this year due to the Covid-19 issue, majority of the districts could not organize their beauty pageants in their respective jurisdictions. It was learnt that out of the 12 districts in the state, only Miss Phek and Miss Peren would be taking place. As such, it was informed that the organisers have taken the audition for Miss Nagaland online.
It maybe mentioned that winners from the respective district pageants were directly qualified for the semi-final round of Miss Nagaland as per the tradition earlier.
It was learnt that the selected contestants would be competing in the Miss Nagaland live virtually in front of a panel of judges with no audience.
“They (contestants) will compete live but they will not have any audience; the audience will see the contest through online mode only,” Pucho said.
Further he informed that after the selection of the 16 contestants from districts across the state, they would meet in Kohima for seven to eight days for grooming and training.
Lipokzulu Lemtur, BASN general secretary, informed that any unmarried girl, aged between 18-25 years and having a minimum height of 5’4” inches, can take part in the beauty pageant, provided she should be a bonafide citizen of the state.
Ruopfuzhano Whiso and Veneinem Singson informed that the registration have already started on September 11 and will continue till October 7.
It was informed that the online audition will be hosted on October 9 and the 10th.
It was informed that pre-recorded videos of the audition would be shown to the audience through social media platforms. The norms of selecting the contestants during auditions and how it is organised would however remain almost same despite being virtual.

The winner of this year’s Miss Nagaland will receive a cash award of INR 1,00,000 with gift hampers, who would also become the “State Icon”.
The first runner-up will fetch a cash prize of INR 70,000 with gift hampers while she would be conferred “District Icon” title, while the second runner-up will get a cash prize of INR 50,000 with gift hampers who will also be winning the “District Icon” title after the contest.
Organisers informed that in this year’s edition, a slight decrease in the prize money has been made. The organisers stated that the small changes in the prize money has been made as the event is being virtually conducted while also maintaining about the financial crisis throughout the state after the impact of Covid-19 pandemic.
North East Beauty Pageant Organisation formed:
During the press conference, BASN also formally announced the formation of North East Beauty Pageant Organisation (NEBP) this year.
It was informed that altogether, there are eight office bearers and nine members in NEBP from all the eight Northeastern states of India.
With the organisation coming into being, it was also announced that the first edition of Miss Northeast will be hosted in Nagaland next year.
