DIMAPUR — The Beauty & Aesthetics Society of Nagaland (BASN) has imposed a temporary restriction on the participation of Naga contestants in unverified or non-recognised national pageants, citing concerns over misleading practices and exploitation.
The decision was adopted as part of a resolution taken in consultation with its district partners following a meeting held on November 22, 2025, to regulate and streamline participation in national-level competitions.
According to the resolution released on Wednesday, BASN observed that several national pageants have engaged in practices that prioritise financial gain over the welfare and development of contestants, leading in some cases to unfair treatment.
As part of the new guidelines, all district partners are required to obtain prior approval from BASN before sending contestants to any national pageant. The organisation will also jointly verify the credibility and authenticity of pageants before participation.
The resolution further stated that contestants who participate in national pageants without approval from BASN and the respective district partners will not be officially recognised. It added that such individuals would also not be considered for future opportunities, endorsements or representation under BASN and its affiliates.

BASN said the restriction would remain in force until a transparent and regulated system is established to ensure the safety, dignity and development of participants.
At present, only Femina Miss India and Miss North-East, organised by the North East Beauty Pageant Organisation (NEBPO), are recognised and endorsed by BASN and its associate partners.
The organisation also reiterated its commitment to safeguarding contestants from exploitation and ensuring that participation in pageantry contributes positively to their growth.
The resolution was adopted collectively by BASN and its district partners, including organisations representing Chümoukedima, Sumi, Wokha, Dimapur, Kohima, Phom, Mokokchung, Peren, Phek, Tseminyu, Niuland, Kiphire and Mon.
