Kohima, July 28 (EMN): The Chairman of the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE), Asano Sekhose today encouraged students to be equipped with appropriate life-skills if one is to compete with others and make a niche for themselves in this competitive world.
The NBSE Chairman, Asano Sekhose, while speaking at the 26th edition of the ‘Spero Meliora 2018’, held on the theme ‘’break the ice and steal and march’ at the Kohima village Council Hall on July 28, challenged the gathered students that ‘it is all about the survival of the fittest, in today’s competitive world’ and cautioned the students that they would be handicapped in their journey of life unless one possesses and quips oneself with appropriate life skills.
Sekhose, while speaking at the inaugural programme, reminded the students that besides academic skills, one need to have and possess the art of communicating effectively, the art of having proper body language, to be emotionally strong, to have a strong inter-personal skill, and effective time management etc to succeed in life.
She said that opportunities abound, but unless one possess the right proficiency and work hard in the chosen field, those opportunities will not wait for anyone. “The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today”, said Sekhose while adding, “if you do not take part in the design of the future, your future will be design by others which will not be pleasant.”
In this regard she maintained that opportunities should be created for the students to recognise, explore, broaden and enrich their hidden talents, thereby further polishing their abilities and skills in the process.
While appreciating the organizers for providing a platform for the students to nurture and enabling them to sharpen their literary and artistic talents, Sekhose said that such a platform will help the students to imagine, assimilate information, learn, socialise, build relationships and deveop a broader perspective of life.
She pointed out that the Naga people have the best talents who can make a difference and can make things happen with their talents. She advised the students to develop a positive attitude, to be grateful to God and be an optimist and pursue their goals with dedication.
Also, while pointing out that competition can be stiff and challenging, the NBSE Chairman asserted that ‘winning or losing is secondary’ and added that the important aspect of any competition is participation.
Therefore, she urged the students, to challenge themselves every day, and be a good human beings and become an asset of the society
The one day extravaganza programme was jointly organized by the Dolphin CLub Kohima (DCK) and the Kohima Village Students’ Union (KVSU). The programme included competition on various categories like solo and cultural songs, fine arts, essay writing, painting, debates, spelling bee and quiz.
In the cultural song competition, Dapfhiitsumia Students Union (PSU) bagged the first place, while Pfüchatsumia Students Union (DSU) and Lhisemia Students Union bagged the second and third positions respectively.
The title for the solo competition was won by Khriesakuonuo Rutsa (PSU), while Neisazhiinuo Rutsa (PSU) and Mhalezonuo Rutsa (PSU) were placed second and third. In spelling bee, Viwenuo Suohu (TSU) emerged as the winner and Kevilekhoii Miachieo (LSU) and Thejaneinuo Dziivichii (LSU) as second and third place.
The best speaker for the debate was given to Viyazo Mepfhiio (LSU), followed by Nguluonuo Rutsa (PSU) and Ruoguovonuo Rame (PSU).
The overall champion was awarded to PSU followed by LSU and DSU.
