Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University in Lucknow hosted its first Northeast Cultural Fest, showcasing traditions and the growing presence of Northeastern students on campus.

DIMAPUR — Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU), Lucknow organised its first Northeast Cultural Fest on May 5, highlighting the growing presence of students from the Northeastern states on campus and promoting cultural exchange through music, art and traditional performances.
The university said more than 1,100 students, faculty members and guests attended the programme, which featured performances and exhibitions representing the cultures and traditions of the Northeast.

Addressing the event, Vice Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal said cultural platforms within academic institutions are important for strengthening understanding among students from diverse backgrounds. Referring to the Northeast, he also spoke about the region’s development under the Act East Policy and encouraged continued engagement through such programmes.
The chief guest, Dr. Bonik Chandra Brahma, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Eastern Zone, Gorakhpur Region, spoke on the cultural diversity of the Northeast and the need to preserve indigenous traditions amid social change.
The programme was chaired by Vivikali Hesso, a PhD scholar from the Department of History, while convenor Dr. Somipam R. Shimray described the festival as an initiative aimed at increasing awareness and understanding of the Northeast’s cultural heritage.

According to the university, more than 150 students from Northeastern states are currently enrolled at BBAU, including 20 students from Nagaland. Students from King George’s Medical College, Lucknow, also took part in the event.
