Bayavü panchayat lists out rules for road use

Dimapur, April 30 (EMN): The Bayavü Panchayat has issued a notice listing out a number of rules for citizens to adhere to when using the roads in the area. The panchayat issued a press release on Tuesday listing the dos and don’ts. The residents of Bayavü are grateful to the government of Nagaland for ‘sanctioning’ repairs for the road at Bayavü Hill, the press release stated. The panchayat and the Bayavü Youth Organization issued a “10 points dos and don’ts” for the residents of the colony to follow during the period of repair. ‘It has been found necessary that all residents and passersby must contribute in maintaining the roads. The Bayavü Area Panchayat and the Bayavü Youth Organization hereby direct all residents and passersby to observe the following etiquettes,’ the press release stated. The rules the panchayat listed out to the citizens: Do not park off-road vehicles; do not repair vehicles on the road; do not keep any building materials, firewood, etc. on the road or roadsides. In case there are ‘no other options,’ a written permission may be obtained from the sector welfare board and the sector gaon burah (GB), the same to be given only after taking road damage and traffic obstruction preventive measures,’ the notice stated. This permission shall be valid only for a day, the notice stated. Further, citizens are directed not to throw water on the road. They are not to wash their vehicles on the road either, or drain ‘terrace water’ onto the road. Again, citizens are not to throw any waste on the road or into the drains. ‘Prior written permission from the sector welfare boards and the concerned GB must be obtained for digging the road or the roadside, to lay cables and pipes, or any activities that needs such works. The damages done must be repaired by those responsible,’ the notice stated. Any damage that is done to the roads and any other public property in the colony shall be repaired by those responsible for damaging it, the organisation stated. The Bayavü Youth Organization has been authorized to monitor compliance of the stated “etiquettes” and to penalize the defaulters monetarily. Citizens are asked to inform the Bayavü Area Panchayat, the sector welfare board, or the Bayavü Youth Organization, the sector youth organizations and the GB, to redress any grievance, the notice added.
