Dimapur, Jan. 29 (EMN): The proposed minimum income guarantee announced by the Congress president, Rahul Gandhi will leave a lasting impact on crores of Indians, according a press release from the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee—battered and left without a solitary winning candiate in Nagaland’s last assembly elections.

“The next generation social policy will eliminate extreme poverty and hunger both amongst rural and urban dwellers as it will fill the vacuum in urban areas left by MGNREGA. The minimum income guarantee will ensure that every household below the poverty line, whether urban or rural, is guaranteed a minimum level of income to raise their living standards. Its implementation will thereby not only guarantee a basic standard of living to all citizens of the nation but also ensure that every household will be able to afford food.

“Unlike the BJP’s anti people scheme of demonetidation unleashed upon the nation where the poor were the hardest-hit, leaving a severe adverse impact on their economic and financial lives, the commitment of the Congress party towards poverty eradication and redistribution of resources for inclusive growth has once again been reiterated in the backdrop of MGNREGA which has been acknowledged by the United Nations as one of the best poverty alleviation schemes globally,” the statement read.

The Congress, it claimed, have done it in the past “and given opportunity, Congress will do it again.” It stated that the party has not only the vision and commitment to announce such a scheme but also the political will to implement it and include the poor in the growth of the nation. “NPCC appreciates the vision of Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party for the nation’s poor as well as the anticipated revival of consumption led growth the scheme will have on the nation’s economy,” read the statement.
