Basketball court inaugurated in Zapami

Kohima: A standard basketball court constructed under MGNREGA of the Rural Development department in Zapami village under Phek district was inaugurated on Friday by the block development officer (BDO) of Pfutsero, Vekhrolo Koza.

In his speech, Koza called upon the youth to make the best use of the provided facility to excel and make the community proud. He also assured to take up the matter with the higher authority for gallery facility.

He stressed on the need to engage in recreational activities to stay safe from health risks. He further lauded the unity among the villagers, which made the various developments possible within the village.

The Zapami VDB secretary, Kedoutsolhi Wetsah, informed that the basketball court was constructed at a cost of INR 5.30 lakh.

Wetsah mentioned that Zapami village has achieved 100% CGI sheet roofing to all households in the year 1984 (first in Phek district) and 100% electrification to all households in the year 1986 (first in Phek district).

Besides, the village also received a commendation certificate for the best VDB in overall rural development during the last 25 years (1980-2005).

The village also received Nirmal Gram Puraskar (NGP) award under total sanitation campaign in the year 2009 (first in Phek district), received the best performing VDB award by the DRDA Phek for the year 2014-2015 and received the state-level award for the best performing VDB in Phek district during 2016-2017.

Wetsah further stated that the village also achieved 100% CGI sheet green painting to all households in the year 2022 and received the best performing VDB secretary award in Phek district during 2021-2022.

The programme was chaired by Rite Khutso, chairman of village education committee, while the pastor of Zapami Baptist Church, Chikhro Khutso, said an invocation prayer. The chairman of Zapami village council, Tewelhi Khutso, delivered the welcome address, while Kuwe-ü and Weshe-ü Kreo enthralled with song and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Wekhazü Kreo.
