NSS volunteers and programme officers of Baptist College Kohima during a special camp in Chedema Model Village from April 11 to the 14th.

DIMAPUR — With an objective to inculcate life skills, hands-on experience on rural way of life and to serve the community, the National Social Scheme (NSS) unit of Baptist College, Kohima, organised a special camp at its adopted village, Chedema Model Village under Kohima district from April 11 to the 14th.

An update from the college stated that the NSS volunteers carried out various activities for the welfare of the village community by cleaning the village council hall, Government Primary School (GPS), Angawadi centre and surrounding areas of the village. Besides, the volunteers also helped in carrying and chopping the fire woods for the elderly in the village.

To beautify and save the environment, the NSS of the college donated various fruits and ornamental tree saplings and carried out a plantation drive in and around the village. An initiative to start an orange orchard in the village was taken up during the plantation drive.

As a gesture of gratitude, it stated that tokens of appreciation were handed to the village council, Chedema CRC, students of Government Primary School and the elderly men and women in the village.

Besides, as a part of recreational activities, a walk in the nature, morning exercise and evening programme were organised.

It stated that three NSS programme officers along with forty-seven NSS volunteers participated in the four-day camp.
