Mitelephe, Oct. 28 (EMN): Campaigning for its candidate, opposition Naga People’s Front (NPF) legislator Y Vikheho Swu, has urged the electorates of Mitelephe village to vote in favour of its candidate Kikovi Kirha in the upcoming bye-poll to the 14- Southern Angami-1 A/C.
Swu made this appeal during a campaign rally held at Mitelephe village on Wednesday. Swu reminded the people to understand the history of the Nagas adding that NPF, formed in 1963, was 'deeply rooted in the principles' which represents the identification of the Nagas and their rights.
"If you don't know your history, you will become visionless," he said adding, "NPF belongs to you".
He recalled how the Election Commission ceased the "cock symbol" of NPF in 1998 for boycotting the election in the year to demand for the Naga solution. He shared how it was NPF's chief Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu, who retained the party symbol after winning an election using a "bus symbol".
The legislator further stated that NPF came into being through Angami people and asked the electorates to vote in favour of the NPF party, which 'strives for the betterment of the Nagas.'
Describing Kirha as a “dynamic leader, steady and educated man," who diligently works for the welfare of the party, Swu urged the electorates to support him saying, "If you vote for him (Kirha), you won't regret."
Also speaking on the occasion, former MLA Kropol Vitsu expressed displeasure on the remarks made by the chief minister Neiphiu Rio against the independent and opposition party candidates.
Vitsu stated that the words uttered by the chief minister describing the "NPF party and its leaders are all dead" during election rallies was "insults and disrespectful." He reminded that Rio had 'forgotten that he came to power from NPF.' He further accused the chief minister of trying to ‘control and divide’ the people of the southern Angami region.
Vitsu vouched that Kirha has the quality of a legislator as he had actively involved in the students' unions movement right from his childhood besides other activities pertaining to Southern Angami Public Organisation (Sapo).
Also speaking on the occasion, Kirha has assured to give his best for the welfare of the constituency if he was elected.
Later, NPF also held another campaign at Mima village where prominent personalities from the party sought the votes in favour of Kikovi.
