Bank officials told to be cordial with customers

DIMAPUR — Expounding that many people are not literate in banking system, the Nagaland Director General of Police (DGP), Rupin Sharma, told the bank officials to be cordial with customers and render quality service.

Sharma stated this during inauguration of Punjab and Sind Bank branch office at Burma Camp in Dimapur on Tuesday. Besides urging the bank officials to be courteous, he cautioned them to maintain suspicious transaction records (STR) to detect illegal money transaction and to report such cases to the police.

Mentioning that in today’s world with the internet banking facility, the DGP stated that it does not required bank branch in every village. He rather urged to organise outreach programmes for the people in remote areas.

Sharma further requested the officials to coordinate with other banks and install two-three CCTV cameras in the periphery of the roadside so that it also serves their purpose as well as the police.

During the event, the managing director and CEO of Punjab & Sind Bank, Swarup Kumar Saha, reiterated the bank’s vision to expand its footprint in the whole of northeastern region aligning with its vision. He informed that it is the 32nd branch office in the northeastern region and planned to open four additional branches in the near future.

Saha added that the expansion initiative underscored Punjab & Sind Bank’s unwavering commitment to providing comprehensive banking services and fostering financial inclusion in the region.

“By strategically placing branches in various districts, the bank aims to enhance accessibility to its diverse range of banking products and services, ensuring that every community, regardless of location, can benefit from its offerings,” he said.

He mentioned that Punjab & Sind Bank, a venerable institution tracing its origins to the Holy city of Amritsar in 1908, has recently achieved a significant milestone by surpassing INR 2 lakh crore in business.

As part of its ongoing commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction, he informed that the bank has upgraded its core banking solution to the latest Finacle 10 version. He added that today’s event marked Punjab & Sind Bank 1563 branch offices across the country.

At the event Lalremthang Hmar, zonal manager of Guwahati zone, and Lunminlal Lhouvum, branch manager of Burma Camp, were also present during the inauguration programme.
