Unlike previous conferences, NSF leaders said, this year’s conference will be a little different. The main objective is that ‘We (NSF) will work for the future of our students as well as be a role model for the society,’ said S Supongmeren Jamir, convener of the organising committee. Jamir said so at a press conference that was conducted by the NSF, at its office in Kohima on April 40, in regard to the forthcoming conference. The NSF will work for the welfare of the people and will stand for unified “Nagalim,” Jamir said. The organisation’s federating units are asked to write their understanding of the conference’s theme—”for just a future” (sic)—in about 100 words, he informed. From the written opinions, the NSF will come up with a resolution which in turn will be the ‘basic guidelines of the incumbent NSF officials,’ Jamir said Around 2000 delegates are expected to attend the conference. The North East Students Organisation, All Assam Students’ Union, All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union, and the Eastern Naga Students’ Federation have confirmed their participation, according to the NSF’s President Kesosul Christopher Ltu. On account of the ongoing political negotiations between the government of India and the Naga groups, a brainstorming session on the topic “the Naga journey-hopes and challenges” will be conducted on May 10 at 12:00 noon, the NSF informed. The issue was specifically chosen to educate the younger generation to go more in-depth into the Naga political journey. ‘This is one of the most anticipated sessions we are looking forward to,’ Christopher said. He was of the view that the level of awareness about Naga political issues among the young, particularly students, was ‘ignorant.’ One of the main goals of the conference is to encourage the students to keep abreast with the Naga political issue, he said. He claimed that there were some people who tend to “misguide” the younger citizens. The NSF has invited all the Nagas from various areas, neighbouring states and communities. The conference is conducted once every two years. The chief minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio and Manipur minister of Printing & Stationery L Dikho will attend the inaugural session on May 9 as honoured guest and special guest, in that order. Mmhonlumo Kikon, advisor for Information Technology will attend the introductory session on May 8. Other guests include the minister for PWD Tongpang Ozukum; TR Zeliang, leader of opposition; and Y Patton, deputy chief minister as the guest for the valedictory session, the updates stated. The arrival and registration to the conference will begin at 1:00 pm on Wed. May 8 at the venue while the introductory session starts at 5:30 pm.
