DIMAPUR — President of Business Association of Nagas (BAN), Mongkum Jamir, inaugurated the Nagaland Bamboo Industry (NBI) in Akhoya village under Mokokchung district and formally launched its product ‘Tir Mijang,’ an organic bamboo charcoal, on Tuesday in the presence of farmers and local leaders.

In his inaugural speech, Mongküm congratulated the proprietor of the NBI, K Temjen Jamir, and his team for successfully set up a bamboo industry and production of ‘Tir Mijang’ for the benefit of the farmers. He also appreciated the cooperative attitude and hard working spirit of the farmers.

Mongküm has suggested the farmers to setup a bamboo cluster and put more effort in skilling so as to make themselves productive partners of the industry, an update from NBI stated.

“As far as bamboo charcoal is concerned, we don’t have any marketing problem,” Mongküm said.

Sharing his experience during their recent visit to Bangladesh, Mongküm disclosed that the people of Bangladesh are industrialists and hardworking and not as perceived.

“We have so many natural resources in Nagaland that Bangladesh needs. We need to link them commercially to benefit us,” he added.

Meanwhile, K Temjen Jamir thanked God and the farmers in making the purpose of NBI successful. He informed that NBI has its mission to create wealth and jobs for local people.

Akhoya village council and Akhoya Bamboo Growers’ Society also congratulated the team of the NBI.

T Meren Paul, former transport commissioner of Nagaland, also shared his gratitude in making the Akhoya bamboo project commercially successful by producing bamboo charcoal.

The dedicatory prayer was said by Rev. T Lanu, pastor of Akhoya Baptist Church, and Moameren Jamir, pastor of Longchara Baptist Church.

It mentioned that all the machineries at NBI are indigenously made. It added that ‘Tir Mijang’ is manufactured at a factory site without electricity connection and proper road. Currently, it is run by diesel generator.
