NEPS
KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 18

MINISTER for Roads & Bridges Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu has requested Union Minister for Transport, Road and Highways (MTRH) Oscar Fernandes to expedite resumption of road construction works in Nagaland under SARDP-NE that was executed by M/s Maytas & Gayatri. Azo, who met the Union Minister at latter’s office in New Delhi recently, also urged him to consider handing over, if possible, the SARDP projects to the State government as there is hardly eight to nine months time left for completion of the works. Fernades assured to do his best so that the road projects are started again in Nagaland, he said.
Talking to NEPS Wednesday, Azo said he had a detailed discussion with Fernandes on various road development projects in the State. He had briefed the Union minister on the road projects under the Special Accelerated Road Development Program (SARDP-NE) in the State and how the projects are held up for last two years while the other Northeastern states are benefiting from it.
The road projects under SARDP-NE for the Nagaland sector include four projects covering a total of 329 kilometers.
Azo further requested the Union Minister to take up the State’s “Foothill Road Project” as “National Project.” Fernandes said it needs to be discussed at the highest level since it is a very big project. The Union Minister also asked him to come up with “detailed project report” to take it up as a “National Project.” Azo also discussed with Fernandes other issues like Economic and Important (E&I), Enter State Connectivity (ESC), etc. for the State.
