Awareness Session on women centric legislation held in Kohima
DIMAPUR — In lieu of the 100-day special awareness campaign under SANKALP- HEW, the district administration in collaboration with the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Kohima held an awareness session on ‘Women centric legislations’ at TM Government Higher Secondary School on Thursday.
Speaking on women centric legislations, Advocate Thejasenuo Vitsu gave an extensive explanation of the various constitutional articles which ensures the rights of women in India, an update stated.
She also expounded on the different laws and acts relating to women like the Protection of Women from Domestic Act, 2005, the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971, the Equal Remuneration Act, 1976 and a host of other acts, which ensured the rights and protection of women.
In addition to these acts and rights, she also listed the various schemes to ensure the empowerment of women and the girl child. Vitsu further explained on the rights and protection of children in India like the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act, 2000 (Amended in 2015) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO), Act, 2012.
She concluded by stating that women and girls should be aware of the rights and privileges that have been put in place by the Government in their interest.
The program was chaired by Kesoneinuo Kense, gender specialist, DHEW, Kohima.
