Awareness programme on Zoonotic diseases held at Sainik School
DIMAPUR — Commemoration ‘World Zoonotic Day,’ the College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry under the leadership of Dr. S Mukherjee, head of the department, conducted an awareness programme at Sainik School Punglwa (SSP) on July 6.
The objective of the awareness programme was to educate and sensitise cadets about the importance and prevention of zoonotic diseases, stated an update from the school.
It stated that Dr. Mukherjee provided the cadets with a historical perspective of World Zoonotic Day and emphasised its global significance. He highlighted the critical role of awareness and education in combating the spread of zoonotic diseases, infections that can be transmitted from animals to humans.
Dr. Raghubir Singh, assistant professor, also presented a detailed discussion on the various types of zoonotic diseases. He explained the nature of those infections, their modes of transmission and the potential risks they pose to both humans and animals.
Report stated that the programme was well-received by the cadets, who actively participated in the interactive session, asking pertinent questions and engaging in discussions on the topics presented by the resource speakers.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Lt. Col. Chaudhary, vice principal of Sainik School Punglwa. He acknowledged the team’s efforts in fostering a better understanding of zoonotic diseases and their prevention.
