Awareness programme on fortified rice held in Zunheboto
The Department of Food and Civil Supplies, Zunheboto district, organised a one-day sensitisation and awareness programme on fortified rice on August 21.
DIMAPUR — The Department of Food and Civil Supplies, Zunheboto district, organised a one-day sensitisation and awareness programme on fortified rice on Monday at the multipurpose hall, Zunheboto.
Addressing the attendees, ADC Zunheboto, Moakumzuk Tzudir, emphasised the importance of not being misled by social media videos and encouraged everyone to learn about the benefits of fortified rice.
Shan Ezung, the state technical officer (PATH) and resource person at the event, explained the importance of fortified rice, highlighting its micronutrient content, which includes iron, vitamins B12, and folic acid.
During the programme, common misconceptions and concerns about fortified rice or fortified rice kernels (FRK) being mistaken for plastic rice were addressed, and it was clarified that FRK is perfectly safe and suitable for human consumption.
