Awareness programme on fluoride water held in Karbi Anglong

Our Correspondent Diphu, July 27 (EMN):  An awareness programme on fluoride was organised at 7th Miles, Rongkangthir Dengja Teron village along Diphu-Manja road by a team from Tezpur University to inform the villagers about the health hazard of fluoride and how it can be made safe in Karbi Anglong on Friday, July 27. The awareness camp was organised as the sick Rongkangthir Water Supply Scheme by PHE, Urban division, Diphu will be revived to provide potable water to the villagers. Professor, Dr. Robin Kumar Dutta, deparment of chemical sciences and research student, Mahidul Islam, Tezpur University came to Rongkangthir village and conducted an awareness camp about the health effect of fluoride. Dr. Dutta informed the villagers about the health hazard of floururis, when people drink or use fluoride content water there is chance of getting dental and skeletal fluorusis problems in human. Dr. Dutta told that he has been doing experiments in Dengaon and Tekelangjun area in Karbi Anglong on the high content of fluoride in water. Dr. Dutta told the villagers a simple and a low cost method of filtering water to separate fluoride so that the water can be usable. The method is using phosphoric acid crushed limestone treatment as the simple way of separating fluoride from water. As limestone is abundantly available in the district and so this method can be adopted to avoid fluoride. Dr. Dutta also told the villagers that Rongkangthir Water Supply Scheme will be one of the biggest schemes in the district. The team from Tezpur University was guided by executive engineer, Diphu Rural Water Supply Division, PHE, Bimal Chandra Sarma to Rongkangthir village.
