Awareness programme on advances in engineering, technology held

Imphal, March 19 (EMN): Speaking at the day-long awareness programme on “Recent advances in engineering and technology”, Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, union minister of State for External Affairs and Education on Saturday said that science and technology plays a key role in human civilisation.
The awareness programme was held at the auditorium of Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Manipur at Mantripukhri near Imphal.
Highlighting the importance of studying science, Dr. Ranjan appealed to the people, particularly the younger generations, to learn more about science by simply observing the environment with an interest.
He also called upon the masses to take the opportunity of learning science, technology and information technology at premier institutes like IIIT in the state.
In his presidential speech, director, Dr. Krishnan Baskar of IIIT Manipur spoke about the latest science topics such as artificial intelligence and the use of robots in enhancing the limited activities of humans.
Dr. Baskar also informed that there are 25 IIITs across the country with just two IIITs in the entire Northeastern states including the one in Myangkhang, Senapati district .The other IIIT is located in Guwahati.
It may be mentioned that IIIT Manipur was established in 2015 in order to develop Manipur as a preferred destination for information technology related manpower and industry. Dr. Navanath Saharia and Dr. Nongmeikapam Kishorjit Singh, both from the Computer Science and Engineering department also spoke on the occasion.
A technical-cum-interaction session was also held.
The aim of the day’s event was to give an insight on developing technologies in the field of engineering to the young generation of the society and provide them with a platform.
