A one-day awareness and sensitization programme on beekeeping was held for the first time in Wakching area constituency at community hall, Wakching village.
Representatives and other individuals from seven neighbouring villages attended the programme organised and sponsored by Nagaland Beekeeping & Honey Mission.
Stressing the need to preserve nature and bio resources, MLA and NBHM chairman YM Yollow Konyak, who graced the occasion as the chief guest, said though we are living in a world of technology, people have to turn to natural resources for survival.
To prove his point, he cited the example of the advanced countries such as USA and other European countries which depend on agri-products. He, therefore, urged the people to take keen interest in utilising the natural resources/ products to our advantage.
He also appealed to the NBHM and their team to give their sincere effort in sensitizing the local populace.
Meanwhile, NBHM team leader Wonchio Odyuo, while delivering the key note address, said unlike other departments where the investment is high, beekeeping is a low cost business while its product has high market value.
Stating that the NBHM has no subsidiary fund, he clarified that the duty of the team is to sensitize and train interested individuals/ groups in beekeeping.
Sensitization on general introduction to honey bees and beekeeping products, scope and potentials of beekeeping in context of Nagaland, honey bee pollination and its advantages via climate change and success stories (Nagaland scenario) were delivered by Bokali Chikhe, Chubanungla Shilu, Dr Thungben Yanthan, Bendangmoa Yim, and Nzanbemo Kikon and Deventhong Yim, all NBHM team members.
